Anastasia and Erik
Anastasia wrote; We met in the 8th Grade. He was a new kid who had just moved to Connecticut from Colorado. I had lived all over the Northeast and the idea of ‘the west’ was completely foreign to me. We started dating before college – Erik went to Penn State and I to Bucknell; two Pennsylvania schools close enough that they both kept coming back to each other month after month, weekend after weekend.
Graduation came and went and we both still felt the happiest
when we were together; we both felt the most complete
when we were at each other’s side…
Jobs and graduate school took us to different states, and I told Erik he could not propose until they were living in the same town. Erik was, as always, unendingly patient and understanding and when I finally moved back to central Pennsylvania to be with him, he took me to our favorite park on a summer day and in the midst of a picnic lunch promised to be mine forever. I burst into smiles and felt happiness consume me as I watched Erik slide the most elegant, sleek diamond ring onto my finger. (Side note: I was wearing hideous nail polish and Erik got a bloody nose …. But that’s beside the point)
We decided to get married in December in Cooperstown, New York, a midway point for most of our extended families. The Otesaga Hotel, classic and regal on Glimmerglass Lake, was the perfect venue for our ceremony and dinner party to follow. More interested in a vintage dinner and dancing celebration than the traditional wedding, We found the wood burning fireplaces and crystal chandeliers at the historically-rich hotel to hold just the right ambiance. The Otesaga staff was wonderfully helpful. Mohican Flowers and Intrastate Entertainment created just the right touches in atmosphere and music to match the mood of the day.
We have been blessed with some wonderfully talented friends who heightened the day with live piano playing, singing and officiating. We knew we would want to cherish and remember these performance gifts for a lifetime, so we searched for a videographer. We came across Gavin Law by browsing the internet and found that his beautiful wedding video footage changed with every couple he filmed. He keyed in to each couple’s style to create a perfectly fitting archive of their day. On the day of the wedding Gavin was calm, easy to work with, and faded away (as any great videographer should!). It is amazing to watch the footage from the day and have every moment and memory come flooding back. We are filled with gratitude and joy that we can re-live their glorious lifelong promises and celebration for years to come!
