How did the two of you meet?
Dave and I met through work. We both worked for the same company, but I was based out of their Rochester, NY office and he was based out of Chicago. I was in the process of transferring to the Chicago office when we were both invited on our company’s annual cruise to the Bahamas. We instantly liked each other and kept in touch after the cruise. When I moved to Chicago, Dave offered to pick me up from the airport and show me around the City and we have been together ever since.
What happened the day he proposed? How did he do it?
We were getting ready to meet friends for dinner, when Dave called me out to the living room because he wanted to show me this funny video on YouTube. He streamed it on our TV and the first two videos of were of him goofing around. I looked at him confused and said, “Is this really what you do when I’m not around?” He said “You have to see the next one, it’s the best one” In the final video, Dave was talking about our relationship and the reasons why he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He ended the video stating that he had just one question for me, and when I turned around, he was down on one knee. We met up with friends for a great dinner and surprised them with our news. Afterwards, Dave surprised me with a party he had planned with many of our close friends at a champagne bar in Chicago to continue the celebration.
What were the main influences behind the style of your wedding, it’s location and your venue choice for your big day?
My husband and I are both pretty laid back and fun loving, so we wanted our wedding to be a reflection of that. We knew we wanted an indoor-outdoor venue that would incorporate the beautiful landscape of the Finger Lakes while not being completely outdoors in case the weather didn’t cooperate. My family has a home on Keuka Lake and we have visited the Garrett Chapel many times. It’s the most picturesque chapel overlooking Keuka Lake and makes you feel like you are in a different country. I knew from the first time I visited the Garrett Chapel, that I wanted to be married there some day. It is historic and small, and only seats 75 guests, so we loved the idea of having a more private, intimate ceremony with our closest family and friends and then a bigger reception after.
When we were visiting different reception venues, we could not get over the amazing view at Bristol Harbour. We visited the venue on a cold, rainy day in March and we were immediately drawn to it’s rustic charm. Bristol Harbour’s wedding coordinator was so accommodating and flexible and we loved the laid back vibe of the venue. It was exactly what we envisioned for our wedding–a place for everyone to kick back, mingle and just have a great time.
What made you decide to hire a videographer?
There are things that video can capture that photography simply can’t, so we knew early on that we wanted to hire a videographer to capture our wedding day. While searching online for one, I would watch wedding videos on Style Me Pretty and my husband would make fun of me because I would be crying at videos of couples I had never met before. I knew that I wanted to find a videographer that would capture the emotions of our day so well that even if you weren’t there, you felt like you were. When we came across Gavin’s website, I immediately felt that connection. I loved his style and how each video told their own unique story.
We completely recommend hiring a videographer. The wedding day goes by so fast and when it’s over, you just want tangible items to relive that special day over and over again. We can’t recommend Gavin enough. He was so wonderful to work with. Gavin was not intrusive at all but was able to capture all the special moments of our wedding day.
What were your favorite parts of your wedding day (or perhaps most memorable)?
It’s so hard to choose! We had the most perfect, memorable day from start to finish. But after dinner ended, it slightly rained for about 3 minutes while the sun was still out, and afterwards the most beautiful rainbow appeared above the lake. It was such a wonderful surprise and everyone came out on the lawn to see it. It was a special moment we will remember forever, surrounded by our closest family and friends.
