How did the two of you meet?
Justin and I met in college at Oswego in 2003. We were friends for years before reconnecting again in 2011. We had a long distance relationship starting in 2012 while Justin lived in Syracuse and I lived in Virginia. We moved to Albany in 2013 when Justin became a state trooper.
What happened the day he proposed? How did he do it?
Justin proposed on January 31, 2014. we were skiing at Killington Mountain in Vermont and we had just gotten to the top of Killington Peak. Justin asked me to stop to admire the view and he got down on one knee on the top of the mountain and asked me to marry him. It was a huge surprise.
What were the main influences behind the style of your wedding, it’s location and your venue choice for your big day?
We began looking at venues in February 2014 and when we saw the Canfield Casino we immediately knew. The style of the wedding kind of followed suit with the venue…elegant, classic, and glamorous. I liked the classic and clean look of black and gold with some pink, so everything happened from there.
How did you approach wedding planning? did you use any computer systems, apps or social media?
Lots of Pinterest! I also used theknot.com for our wedding website and some inspiration as well. I was pretty much the only wedding planner I had (with some help from my mom), but I really enjoyed doing it! I also made a lot of excel spreadsheets.
What made you decide to hire a videographer?
Other couples told us that if they did one thing differently it would be to hire a videographer. We looked at videos online and decided it was something we definitely wanted.
Did you have any surprises for each other, or for your guests on your wedding day?
Yes. The mime was a big surprise. The wine bottle favors, and the caricaturists were also a surprise. I also bought Justin cuff links that said our names and wedding date.
What would your top tips be for somebody planning their wedding?
Don’t get overwhelmed. Make lots of spreadsheets and lists. Stay organized. Try some do-it-yourself things.
What were your favorite parts of your wedding day (or perhaps most memorable)?
How can I even choose? Getting ready with the girls was great in the morning, seeing Justin for the first time. Spending time with all of our favorite people. Dancing forever.
