How did the two of you meet? We met during orientation week in dental school at Stony Brook. We started dating after a few months into our first year.
What happened the day he proposed? How did he do it? It was my birthday and he had planned a dinner for us and our parents. When I arrived at dinner, he gave me my birthday gift. I had asked for a watch and when I opened up the watch box, I was completely surprised to find a beautiful ring inside. He then got down on one knee and I said YES!
What were the main influences behind the style of your wedding, it’s location and your venue choice for your big day? We wanted to get married somewhere between both of our families. Joe had attended a dental conference in Skaneateles at The Lodge and had suggested that we look into it for our reception. I wanted to have the wedding be both elegant and traditional, but I also always liked a little rustic touch to things. The Lodge was perfect because it could accommodate our large guest list, had a rustic look, and could be decorated any type of way.
How did you approach wedding planning? did you use any computer systems, apps or social media? I’m not an easy decision maker, so wedding planning was a long process for me. I used many resources including Pinterest, Etsy, The Knot (website and the wedding planner binder)
What made you decide to hire a videographer? Hiring a videographer was one of the easiest decisions I made. My mom had videotaped every aspect of our lives growing up and we love that we can re-live so many of those great memories and moments. I wanted to be able to do the same for our wedding day.
Did you have any surprises for each other, or for your guests on your wedding day? Joe had written a beautiful letter for me to open on the wedding day. For our guests, we had fireworks during the reception at The Lodge.
What were your favorite parts of your wedding day (or perhaps most memorable)? One of my favorite parts of the wedding day was walking down the aisle and seeing Joe standing there. He teared up a little, which was completely unexpected, but something I will always cherish.
Any advice for brides currently in the planning process? Everyone you talk to is going to offer an opinion and/or advice about the wedding. Listen to them but make sure you stay true to what you and your future husband really want.
