How did the two of you meet? We have known each other since middle school. We were friends for many years before we started dating.

What happened the day he proposed? How did he do it? Doug has always loved old architecture/ old buildings, hotels, churches etc. . there is this little boutique hotel a few streets from where he works in Uptown Charlotte called The Dunhill. The day he proposed (5/21/15).. I was planning on meeting him for dinner after he got off work. I had taken an Uber uptown to meet him. He had a story about how someone he works with knew the owner of The Dunhill and that we could go look at their penthouse suite on the top floor since it was on the way to dinner. It was a very warm day in Charlotte and I was hungry, so I hesitantly agreed. We went upstairs and the cute hotel room had 2 balconies, one of which had no great view, but the second balcony had an amazing view of Charlotte. He got behind me and started mumbling a bit, I turned around to ask him what he was saying and he was on his knee with the ring. The day he proposed, he had had a job interview in the morning, and spoken to my Dad on the phone to ask for his permission and blessing. He had brought 3 changes of clothes since he had been nervous about both events, and had to change his shirt twice before he met me!

What were the main influences behind the style of your wedding, it’s location and your venue choice for your big day? The main influences were location and convenience to where we grew up. We knew we had to accommodate a couple hundred people due to my large extended families. The Shenandoah Clubhouse made the most sense, especially when we were planning the wedding from out-of-state.

How did you approach wedding planning? did you use any computer systems, apps or social media? We did use some internet searches when looking for venues, several of them were immediately nixed due to them not being able to accommodate enough people.

What made you decide to hire a videographer? I (Chrissy) have always wanted a videographer at my wedding, Doug was the complete opposite. I know not having a videographer is one of the biggest regrets of a lot of brides, and I also spoke to several of my friends who were married to get their input. Pictures do speak 1,000 words, but I really wanted to be able to look back at a video years down the road and hear speeches, and see an actual video of that day.

Did you have any surprises for each other, or for your guests on your wedding day? We didn’t have any major surprises, besides maybe the gifts we got each other. I did not know what Doug was going to get me. The watch I gave him was a watch we had seen in St. Martin on our first vacation together several years ago. I told him I would buy it for him when we got married, and I did!

What would your top tips be for somebody planning their wedding? If you can afford a wedding planner, hire one!

What were your favorite parts of your wedding day (or perhaps most memorable)? I have to say the Church ceremony was extremely memorable to me. My Mom had worked for our priest (Father Mesmer) for several years and he was so accommodating of a lot of requests I had for the ceremony. It was also so memorable having my grandmother give me Communion, and Father letting her help with that. The two speeches from my sister and Doug’s best friend were also very memorable from the day.

Any advice for brides currently in the planning process? Delegate! If family or friends ask if they can help, let them!
